Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 8, 2026
Folios is a private journal app built for people who value their privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, what we don't, and why.
Your journal stays on your device
Everything you write in Folios is stored locally on your device. Your entries, moods, tags, and settings never leave your phone. There are no accounts, no cloud sync, and no way for us to read your journal.
Analytics and crash reporting
Folios uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymous usage data and crash reports. This helps us understand how the app is used and fix issues quickly.
This data is:
- Anonymous — it is not linked to your identity
- Never shared with third parties for advertising
- Limited to app usage patterns and crash logs
You can turn off analytics entirely in Settings > Privacy. When turned off, no data is collected or sent.
What we don't collect
- Your name, email, or any personal information
- Your journal entries or anything you write
- Your location
- Your contacts or photos
- Any advertising identifiers
Backups
When you export or back up your journal, the file is saved to a location you choose on your device. Encrypted backups are protected with a password you set. We never have access to your backup files.
On-device processing
Features like mood detection, writing insights, and smart prompts run entirely on your device using on-device machine learning. No data is sent to any server for processing.
Third-party services
Folios uses the following third-party services:
- Firebase Analytics — anonymous usage analytics (privacy policy)
- Firebase Crashlytics — crash reporting (privacy policy)
Children's privacy
Folios does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app does not require any personal information to use.
Changes to this policy
If we make changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
