What it does
- Choose your paper
- Seventeen handcrafted paper themes, from warm ruled cream to dark moleskine, kraft, blueprint and cherry blossom — each with its own ink colour and ruling. Nine handwriting fonts to write them in. Change them per entry, or for the whole journal.
- A year ago today
- Folios resurfaces what you wrote on this date in earlier years. Nothing to set up and nothing to remember — it is waiting at the top of the page when you open the app.
- Mood, without the questionnaire
- No tapping a smiley face every night. Folios reads your writing on your device and picks up the feeling behind it. Over time you get a mood breakdown of your week, an activity heatmap, your writing streak and your busiest hours.
- 230+ prompts for the blank page
- A fresh prompt each day. Long-press the write button and it suggests prompts that fit where you actually are — reflective when things are good, gentler when they are not.
- Private, and offline for good
- Entries live in a private database on your device. No account, no sign-up, no cloud sync. Lock the journal with a PIN or Face ID, and set a decoy PIN that opens a separate, ordinary-looking journal if you ever have to hand your phone over.
- Backups you control
- Export the whole journal to a file, protect it with a password using AES-256, and import it again on any device. Turn on auto-backup to a folder you choose and forget about it.
